A Rente do Chan is a nonprofit environmental association based in Ponte Caldelas, Pontevedra, Spain, with around fifty members. It was founded after wildfires on 15 October 2017 burned 2,900 hectares in the municipality. In response to the damage, local residents began coordinating efforts to reduce erosion, protect soil and help restore burned land. The association continues to work toward healthier, safer landscapes and communities.
Its work focuses on defending, conserving and restoring local mountains and rivers, while valuing their cultural heritage. A Rente do Chan also promotes environmental education and responsible practices for using and conserving natural resources. It seeks to protect the territory through legal measures that serve the common good and future generations, in agreement with landowners and users. Collaboration with public administrations and institutional bodies on environmental issues is another part of its mission.
Rather than selling commercial products, the association develops and supports environmental initiatives, restoration projects and partnerships.
