Ari’s Cancer Foundation is a registered South African non-profit established in 2012 in memory of Ariana “Ari” Jansen, whose experience with cancer inspired her family to help other young people facing similar challenges. Run by 12 volunteer committee members, the foundation focuses on cancer awareness among adolescents and young adults (AYA) and provides practical assistance and support to patients and their families.
Its work includes supporting the Paediatric Oncology Department at Tygerberg Hospital. The foundation has helped provide pain medication and catheter line sets, as well as home-care essentials such as oxygen, wheelchairs, mattresses and food. It also supports the hospital’s Teen Care Centre, which accommodates patients and parents from outside Cape Town, with food and plans for improvements intended to create a more welcoming environment.
People can support the foundation through donations, monthly partnerships, volunteering, fundraising and purchasing products offered online. Its activities include the Sock It to Cancer campaign, memorial walks, cycling and running teams, and other awareness and fundraising events.
