ARK Alliance, the home of the Archival Resource Key (ARK), offers comprehensive guidance on implementing ARKs for your organization's resources. To start using ARKs, you need a Name Assigning Authority Number (NAAN) to indicate your organization, a minter for generating unique resource names, a resolver for redirecting ARK identifiers to access URLs, and a plan for utilizing ARK features effectively. Consider preservation policies to ensure persistent access to resources.
Obtain a NAAN by filling out a request form, especially if your organization has varied needs. Decide on ARK features based on current and future use cases, such as shoulders or metadata standards. Choose or build an ARK system using free specialized services or software plugins.
The Resources section offers tools and technical documentation for building a local ARK support system, like the Noid system. Ensure your system supports ARKs and aligns with best practices for successful implementation. Stay updated by subscribing to the newsletter
