About Armagh Observatory & Planetarium
Armagh Planetarium is the longest running planetarium in the British Isles, having opened its doors in 1968 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018. Renowned for its significant role in advancing planetarium technology, it originally featured a starball Goto projector and has since upgraded to a state-of-the-art Digistar 7 digital projector system. This modern setup, which includes two high-resolution Sony laser projectors, offers an immersive viewing experience with stunning visuals and high-quality audio.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of presenter-led shows that explore the intricacies of our solar system and the universe at large. The planetarium features a 12-meter dome that seats up to 95 guests, making it ideal for educational and captivating experiences. In addition to its rich offerings in astronomy, Armagh Planetarium is affiliated with several science and discovery organizations and engages in outreach and educational programs for schools, enhancing public accessibility to science and astrophysics.
