Armand Petersen’s official website, presented by AAPEA, celebrates the life and work of the Swiss-born animal sculptor (1891–1969). Born in Basel, Petersen studied goldsmithing and chiselling at the School of Industrial Arts in Geneva before moving to Paris in 1914. He became known for sculptures with simplified forms, finely finished surfaces and a distinctive sense of alertness and vulnerability in the animals he portrayed.
His work developed within the flourishing animal-art movement of the 1920s, alongside artists including Pompon, Sandoz, Bigot and Artus, while retaining an independent style. The website provides visitors with access to current news, a gallery of works, books and information about the association and Etienne Audfray. It also documents Petersen’s biography, artistic recognition and public collections.
His sculptures are represented in museums including the Louvre, the Musée de la Chasse in Gien and the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Angers. The site further highlights his presence in major international art events, including TEFAF Maastricht and the Biennale des Antiquaires
