ArPOV

ArPOV is a nonprofit civil association established in 1990 in Argentina. It brings together more than 60 institutions and companies that breed and develop plant varieties, including local and multinational businesses, family enterprises, public institutions, and national universities. The organization works to protect the intellectual property rights associated with its members’ genetic innovations and to support continued research into improved plant varieties.

ArPOV represents plant breeders in local, regional, and international forums, and provides members with advisory, administrative, and oversight services. It also promotes an appropriate regulatory framework and educates the public about the benefits of a legal seed market. Through its Extended Royalty system, ArPOV offers producers and distributors online management tools for reporting seed use and handling related declarations and payments. Its website also provides payment guidance, explanatory videos, information on crops and varieties, and channels for submitting confidential reports about suspected illegal seed, labeling, administrative, processing, or product-quality issues. By recognizing genetic creation, ArPOV aims to encourage the development of more and better plant genetics.
