Art Attack Project is a grassroots arts initiative that brings local artists into public spaces to create, connect, and share their creative process. Founded in Fredericksburg, Virginia, by Bill Harris and Gabriel Pons, the project began in 2012 to build solidarity among artists at every stage of their careers and strengthen the wider creative community. Its free, welcoming events are open to artists working in many forms, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and music.
Participants bring their own supplies and tools, then make art in public while engaging with passersby and fellow creatives. The project emphasizes courteous, safe, and considerate use of shared spaces, with a focus on creating rather than selling. Art Attack has traditionally taken place on downtown Fredericksburg’s historic streets and has since inspired events in other cities, where organizers adapt the concept to local needs.
Its flexible format can also support youth outreach and educational programs. The project provides a platform for community participation, artistic exchange, and public celebration of local arts
