Marakame is a brand that offers a creative way to merge art, design, and culture, specifically that of the Huicholes. Through our project of Diffusion and Commercialization of unique pieces of Wixárika (Huichol) Art, we bring together this trilogy of concepts. Our offerings include Huichol Art, Huichol Sculptures, Huichol Cow Skulls, Chaquira Nierikas, Huichol Yarn, and other Huichol Skulls. We also showcase Oaxacan Alebrijes and Mata Ortiz Ceramics.

At Marakame, we believe in the power of Mexican art and craftsmanship. Our pieces are crafted by families from rural communities primarily located in Jalisco, Nayarit, Chihuahua, and Oaxaca.

Our brand was founded by Visual Artist Fernando Motilla and Marcela Abarca, who were captivated by the intricate beadwork and yarn art of the Huicholes. This fascination led them to revalue the work of these artists and highlight it as a living and pulsating story of contemporary indigenous culture in Mexico for the world to appreciate. Along this journey, they discovered other unique forms of art such as Oaxacan Alebrijes and Mata Ortiz Ceramics, each with their own distinct qualities and origins.

Our central idea is to promote, commercialize, and revalue traditional Mexican art pieces, known as "crafts", while also showcasing the social and cultural dimensions that are deeply intertwined with the creation and mythical symbolism of each piece. Marakame Art also supports Huichol families through collaterally related aspects such as healthcare and the preservation of pre-Columbian customs, as well as the fusion of new techniques and materials in the creation of traditional Huichol art through our Marakame Foundation A.C.
