Founded in 2020 by Richard Mudariki, it emerged in response to the art world's digitization and the growing interest in contemporary African art and artists. Dedicated to being the leading platform for contemporary artworks and artists from Zimbabwe, artHARARE also aims to actively participate in the global cultural and artistic dialogue. Since its establishment, artHARARE has fostered a strong sense of community pride among local and Zimbabwean artists in the Diaspora.

It has also introduced Zimbabwean artists to new audiences, leading to their artwork being included in prestigious international art collections. Through its programs, artHARARE encourages artists and cultural producers to engage in dialogue, facilitating the exchange of ideas and networking opportunities with art professionals worldwide. The inaugural edition of artHARARE featured over thirty influential artists from Zimbabwe, South Africa, France, UK, Canada, and the United States.

In 2021, the focus was on Harare, Zimbabwe's capital city, with thirty-one artists exploring the city's relationship with art, transitions, and continuities. artHARARE is shaping the contemporary art landscape with its diverse and thought-provoking exhibitions, creating a space for artistic expression, reflection, and cultural exploration
