Asakusa Samba Carnival is an annual summer festival and parade contest in Tokyo’s Asakusa district. Launched in 1981 and supported by the local community, it has grown into a major event that attracts around 500,000 visitors in recent years. Inspired by Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival, the parade features samba teams whose performances combine energetic percussion ensembles, dancers, songs, and elaborately decorated floats known as alegorias. The organizers present the event as a celebration of samba and a highlight of Asakusa’s summer.

The carnival’s official website provides event information, parade maps, team introductions, participation regulations, judging guidelines, and contest results. It also shares news about the event and viewing arrangements, including live broadcasts and online streaming. Supporters can make an individual contribution in exchange for access to a reserved special viewing seat, an original towel, and the official program. The event is organized by the Asakusa Samba Carnival Executive Committee. Visitors are asked to follow safety rules; general parade viewing is standing-room only, and drones, selfie sticks, tripods, monopods, and chairs are restricted.
