The American Syringomyelia & Chiari Alliance Project, Inc. (ASAP) is a dedicated non-profit organization founded in 1988 by Barbara and Don White. Born from personal experience with Chiari malformation and syringomyelia, ASAP has evolved from a grassroots initiative into a leading authority in research, education, and support for those affected by these conditions. The organization has funded over one million dollars in research grants, significantly advancing the understanding of Chiari malformation and syringomyelia, including initiatives to identify genetic influences associated with these disorders.

ASAP also provides comprehensive educational resources aimed at healthcare professionals and the public to promote better recognition and management of these conditions. Their annual Chiari & Syringomyelia Conference serves as a platform for patients, families, and medical professionals to collaborate and share insights. Through local and virtual support groups, as well as networking opportunities, ASAP strives to support individuals and families in navigating their journeys with these complex disorders, all while working diligently toward the ultimate goal of finding a cure.
