The Australasian Systematic Botany Society (ASBS), established in 1973, is a vibrant community dedicated to promoting the study and advancement of systematic botany across Australasia, which includes Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea, and surrounding islands. Operated by its members, ASBS facilitates the exchange of ideas and research practices while fostering support among botanists. The society organizes various activities, including conferences and awards, to encourage scholarly discourse and recognition of excellence in botanical research.
ASBS connects its members through numerous resources such as newsletters, grants, and fellowships, including the Hansjörg Eichler Scientific Research Fund and the Marlies Eichler Postdoctoral Fellowship. As a registered charity, ASBS also engages in educational initiatives aimed at training young botanists. The elected Governing Council oversees the society, ensuring a collaborative and inclusive environment for all members. With local chapter conveners active in major cities, ASBS serves as a valuable platform for networking and professional development in the botanical field.
