The Association for the Sensory Disabled (ASD) is an independent South African non-profit organisation supporting children with sensory and multiple disabilities, particularly those from impoverished rural communities in the Breede Valley. Based in Worcester, Western Cape, ASD provides care without regard to a child’s religion, race or background, and works with families and the wider community to help children learn, develop and reach their potential.
Its services include the Sean Kelly Special Care Centre, which offers weekday day care to 43 children aged 3 to 18, and the Sean Kelly Child and Youth Care Centre, providing 24-hour residential care to 14 children in the same age range. ASD’s approach prioritises a safe, caring environment grounded in empathy, compassion and dignity, supporting children’s wellbeing and families’ needs.
The organisation also shares information, raises awareness of the challenges faced by sensory-disabled children, and initiates community projects. Individuals and businesses can support its work through donations, sponsorships, gifts in kind or volunteering.
