A Severa is a traditional Fado house and restaurant in Lisbon’s Bairro Alto, inaugurated in 1955 by Júlio and Maria José de Barros Evangelista. Run by the same family for four generations, it is described as Lisbon’s oldest Fado house and has long supported Portuguese culture and the city’s musical heritage. Its name recalls the legendary 19th-century Fado singer Severa.
The restaurant brings together live Fado performances and traditional Portuguese gastronomy in a cozy, candlelit setting. Guests can enjoy dinner while listening to Fado, a musical tradition recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2011. A Severa highlights the quality of its food and offers a menu of Portuguese dishes; its website also features traditional desserts and promotes a weekly schedule of performances and events.
Dinner service and Fado are offered on most evenings, with the venue listing opening hours of 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., except Wednesdays. Reservations are available, and the stated minimum consumption is €55 per person, including the show.
