The Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship, located at the American University of Beirut, is a regional hub that aims to support and empower civil society in the Arab region. Established in 2012 with a generous donation from the Asfari Foundation, the Institute plays a vital role in amplifying knowledge production and dissemination, creating safe spaces for convening and collaboration, and redefining the meaning of inclusive citizenship. Through engaged research programs, the Institute designs and implements initiatives that address the needs of civil society.

It also enhances the capacities and visibility of civil society actors through learning events and global engagements. Furthermore, the Institute produces innovative knowledge and provides a platform for civil society actors to share their voices and reflections. In addition to its physical presence on campus, the Institute operates Midan, a cutting-edge virtual knowledge production space and gathering point for civil society in the region.
