About AshCycle
AshCycle is an EU-funded project that aims to address the challenges of green and digital transition by finding innovative ways to utilize ashes from waste incineration. Currently, ashes from the incineration of municipal solid waste, biomass, and sewage sludge are underutilized, with a significant portion ending up in landfills. This results in the loss of valuable metals, nutrients, rare earth elements, and minerals contained in the ashes. Moreover, landfilling ash incurs high costs, expected to increase in the future.
The AshCycle project intends to develop tools to reduce waste generation by exploring new utilization possibilities for these ashes. Recognizing the importance of involving the community in the transition to a climate-neutral economy, the project actively promotes social acceptance and understanding of new technologies through tailor-made activities for children, women, and civil society. Strong partnerships will be established between local communities, businesses, academia, and civil society to facilitate knowledge transfer and meet industry needs.
