Asheville Guitar Building

Asheville Guitar Building offers hands-on guitar-making classes, instrument repair and setup services, and custom guitars in the Asheville, North Carolina area. Led by skilled luthier and instructor Ken Bailey, its one- to two-week workshops guide aspiring builders through the process of creating a dreadnought-style guitar to take home and play. Students learn complete instrument construction, including top tuning, scalloped bracing, neck shaping, fret installation and dressing, setup, and inlay work. No prior woodworking experience is required: techniques are demonstrated, and specialized tools are provided. Class length varies with the type of build.

Alongside its educational programs, Asheville Guitar Building makes and sells instruments, with offerings that include a rosewood and Adirondack spruce pre-war-style dreadnought, a 12-fret 00-style acoustic guitar with a mahogany top, and an octave mandolin. The business also provides expert instrument repairs and guitar setup services, supporting players as well as people interested in building their own instruments. Located amid the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville Guitar Building combines practical instruction with custom craftsmanship.
