Asia Murphy Phd

Asia Murphy is an ecologist, writer, and photographer whose work brings together wildlife research, imaginative fiction, and nature photography. With a Ph.D. in ecology, Murphy studies how species interact, where they live, and how they coexist. Her research uses camera-trap surveys and other noninvasive methods to investigate carnivore behavior, predator interactions, wildlife populations, and the effects of human activity on ecosystems. Projects have examined coyotes and other predators in North America, fosa populations in Madagascar, and lemur densities in disturbed and undisturbed forests. Murphy also shares scientific findings through publications and science communication.

As a science-fantasy writer, she is developing The Blood-Dimmed Sky, a novel about a witch-hunter and a witch confronting a massacre, an eldritch rainforest, and an alien bioweapon. Her photography grows out of fieldwork and a particular interest in rattlesnakes and bees. Visitors can explore her wildlife images and purchase prints, calendars, and other items through her Etsy shop. Together, Murphy’s research, writing, and photography offer distinct ways to engage with the natural world.
