A.S.I. Sicilia ETS is a volunteer-led, nonprofit association founded in Messina in 2016 and registered as an Italian Third Sector Entity. Based at the Otorhinolaryngology service of A.O.U. “G. Martino,” it supports people who are deaf or hard of hearing, cochlear implant users and candidates, and their families across Sicily. Its work is shaped by the experience of people living with cochlear implants and a commitment to inclusion, solidarity, and the right to health.
The association offers free, personalized listening, guidance, and peer support throughout the cochlear implant journey, from assessment and surgery to activation and rehabilitation. It connects members with people who have shared similar experiences and provides clear information about hearing technology, accessibility, rights, services, and practical matters such as device maintenance and support procedures. A.S.I. Sicilia also raises awareness with institutions and healthcare providers, advocates for continuity of care, and promotes participation in education, work, culture, and everyday life. Its activities include meetings, community initiatives, and informational articles.
