About Autorité de sûreté nucléaire et de radioprotection
The Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire et de Radioprotection (ASNR) is France's dedicated authority for nuclear safety and radiation protection, established on January 1, 2025, following the merger of the Autorité de sûreté nucléaire (ASN) and the Institut de radioprotection et de sûreté nucléaire (IRSN). The ASNR specializes in research, expertise, regulation, and control of civil nuclear activities and radiation safety to ensure public and environmental safety.
As a regulatory body, the ASNR is tasked with formulating and enforcing safety regulations for nuclear operations, including oversight and crisis management in response to any radiological events. It provides essential services such as publicly accessible databases about legacy uranium mining sites through the MIMAUSA project and supports healthcare professionals with tools for safe use of ionizing radiation.
The ASNR also engages with communities through educational exhibitions, and its regional divisions, comprising 218 professionals, are committed to maintaining nuclear safety standards across mainland France and its overseas territories.
