Aspida Zois, meaning “Life Shield,” is a Cyprus-based nonprofit association supporting people with inherited metabolic diseases (IMDs) and their families. Established on July 9, 2013, the association brings together patients, relatives, and others who wish to contribute. It is a member of EURORDIS, the European Organisation for Rare Diseases, and the Cyprus Alliance for Rare Disorders.
Aspida Zois aims to improve support and care for people with IMDs, protect patients’ rights, and provide emotional and social support to families. Its activities include sharing information through educational seminars, raising public and government awareness, and encouraging scientific research and cooperation that may help advance therapies. The association also connects patients with doctors and specialists and builds relationships with similar organisations in Cyprus, Europe, and worldwide.
