Asser Rigs Hus

Asser Rigs Hus Forening is a cultural association based near Fjenneslev on the Danish island of Zealand. Its purpose is to raise awareness of the Hvide family, one of the most influential noble families in Denmark during the 12th and 13th centuries, apart from the royal family. The family’s roots are connected to the local area: its forefather, Skjalm Hvide, lived at a large estate near Fjenneslev Church.

The association shares this history through public events, including lectures, guided tours and presentations about the family, medieval sites and related archaeological discoveries. Its programme has included talks on the early monastery in Sorø, founded by Asser Rig and his brothers, and on excavations at the estate in Fjenneslev. Visitors can also explore information about the Hvide family, historical places and past events through the association’s website. Asser Rigs Hus Forening has received support from Sorø Municipality’s Cultural Purposes Fund. Through its activities, the association connects local heritage with the wider story of medieval Denmark.
