Associazione SPIA

SPIA Onlus is a nonprofit association supporting children with primary immunodeficiencies and their families, in collaboration with the Pediatric Oncohematology Department in Palermo. These rare, serious conditions can make patients unusually susceptible to infections, while limited awareness may complicate diagnosis and access to information. SPIA works to strengthen care and improve wellbeing through practical, emotional, and family support.

Its services include assistance for the hospital department, psychological support for patients and families, and Casa di Riccardo, a welcoming accommodation initiative for children, adolescents, and relatives attending hospital, complemented by additional support services. The association also promotes recreational activities outside the hospital and SPIA CAMP, a therapeutic recreation camp planned in a protected natural setting in southern Italy. Its projects include respiratory physiotherapy and support for treatments such as immunoglobulin therapy.

SPIA funds its work through donations, Italy’s 5 per mille tax designation, charitable celebration favors, and seasonal fundraising campaigns. It also welcomes volunteers and support from businesses and friends.
