ASSURE, the Alliance for System Safety of UAS through Research Excellence, is the FAA’s Center of Excellence for uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) research. It brings together leading research institutions with industry and government partners to advance the safe, effective integration of drones. Its work spans research, testing, standards development, education, and collaboration on practical challenges facing the UAS sector.

ASSURE’s research capabilities include airport and air traffic control operations, autonomy, command and control, detect-and-avoid systems, human factors, safety management, weather, cybersecurity, and disaster preparedness and recovery. The organization also supports modeling and simulation, flight testing, airspace planning, workforce development, and analysis of economic and environmental impacts. Its projects and research resources serve partners working across aviation, public safety, and government.

Through ASSUREd Safe, a nonprofit, self-sustaining, fee-for-service initiative, the organization provides standards, education, training, testing, certification, and credentialing for first responders using UAS. Together, these programs help build knowledge, capabilities, and trustworthy drone operations for complex, high-stakes missions.
