About International Association of Astacology
The International Association of Astacology (IAA), established in Hinterthal, Austria in 1972, is a global organization dedicated to the scientific study and conservation of freshwater crayfish. With members from over 40 countries, including professionals from academia, government, and the crayfish farming industry, the IAA fosters an international community focused on discussing and addressing relevant issues in astacology.
The Association offers various services to its members, including a quarterly newsletter, *Crayfish News*, which disseminates research findings and updates. Additionally, it organizes biennial international symposia that attract over 100 delegates, providing a platform for the exchange of knowledge and collaboration. Members can also access a biennial membership directory to connect with fellow enthusiasts and experts.
With a commitment to the conservation of indigenous crayfish species, the IAA emphasizes responsible practices regarding species introduction and environmental assessments. As an evolving organization, the IAA continues to advocate for the sustainable management of these important aquatic resources.
