Darkwave

Astrocent, the International Institute for Particle Astrophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, is a research institute based in Warsaw, Poland. Established in 2018 as an autonomous centre of excellence within the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center, it is developing into an international institute focused on exploring the Universe through signals beyond ordinary light. Its research covers dark matter, neutrino physics, gravitational waves, particle astrophysics and cosmology, combining theoretical work with experimental science.

Astrocent brings together scientists, engineers, students and technical specialists, and collaborates with research and industry partners in Poland and internationally. A central part of its work is developing advanced, highly sensitive detectors and related technologies that make new experiments possible. The institute also seeks to translate science-driven innovations into practical applications, including potential contributions to medical imaging, solar energy, environmental monitoring and infrastructure safety. Through research projects, partnerships and training, Astrocent aims to strengthen expertise in particle astrophysics and detector technology while connecting fundamental discoveries with broader societal benefits.
