Astronomy Acres

Astronomy Acres Remote Observatories (AARO) provides remote telescope hosting for individuals and groups seeking dark skies for astronomy and astrophotography. Located just north of Rodeo, New Mexico, the facility is listed under Bortle 1 skies and offers 17 pier spaces in a newly constructed, 20-by-16-foot roll-off-roof observatory. Customers can install and remotely operate their own imaging equipment, with high-speed internet and a dedicated, isolated network protected by a next-generation firewall.

AARO’s services include pier leasing, essential equipment maintenance, and on-site support for cameras, mounts, computers, and other gear. Each pier includes a digitally controlled power switch and storage shelving. The site also offers interior security-camera access and optional notifications about roof movement. Backup provisions include a site-wide generator and battery backup at every pier, helping equipment remain operational during extended outages. Astronomy Acres also shares observatory information, weather conditions, an all-sky camera, member resources, help-desk materials, and astrophotography images and articles. Its services are designed to help customers pursue remote imaging without relying on clear, dark skies at home.
