The Aikido Schools of Ueshiba (ASU) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership organization established in 1975. It affiliates more than 100 North American dojos under the instruction of Mitsugi Saotome Shihan and is formally recognized by Aikido World Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. Managed by a board of senior instructors, ASU supports the practice and teaching of Aikido through its network of member schools, training opportunities, educational resources, and community programs.
The organization hosts annual qualified camps, including a Winter Intensive in St. Pete Beach, Florida, and a Summer Camp in Washington, D.C. Its calendar also features seminars, examinations, and qualifying events. ASU provides guidance on training, dojo etiquette, testing and promotion, and student development, with resources available in English and Spanish. Members can access working groups focused on wellness, instruction, diversity and inclusion, and examinations, as well as grants and a dojo ambassador program. ASU also undertakes the care and preservation of the Aiki Shrine in Florida and is raising funds to support the shrine and its ongoing mission.
