The Australian Trainers’ Association (ATA) is a national organisation representing horse trainers across Australia. Established in 1967, it is recognised as the principal representative body for trainers and has members in every state, supported by a National Federal Branch and state branches in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia. Its membership includes professional trainers, owner-trainers, and picnic and seasonal permit holders.
The ATA’s mission is to support, promote and protect the interests of horse trainers and the training profession. It advocates on racing and training issues, representing trainers in consultations and submissions to racing authorities. As an employer representative registered under the Fair Work framework, the ATA is a party to the Horse and Greyhound Training Award 2020 and guides members on changes to the award.
The association also provides practical member resources and services, including information on wage rates, allowances, public holidays, parental and long-service leave, debt recovery, insurance and workplace matters. Its offerings include membership, racing supplies, WorkCover services and support through the Australian Trainers Trust.
