About Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing
The Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) Program is an intensive and transformative program designed to equip adult learners with the skills needed to make an immediate impact in the defense industrial base (DIB). The DIB refers to the network of companies that produce parts for the U.S. military. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and educational levels, uniting in their desire to serve the country by working in the defense industry.
ATDM was created in response to the increasing military technology production of countries like China and North Korea, highlighting the need for the U.S. to strengthen its workforce in defense manufacturing. The program, funded by the Navy, focuses on training students in the repair, upfitting, and building of submarines, with these skills being transferable to other defense industry companies.
Students at ATDM receive rigorous training in specialized areas such as additive manufacturing, CNC machining, non-destructive testing, quality control inspection, and welding. Every aspect of their training is purposeful and relevant to the defense industrial base. The program is completed within four months, encompassing over 600 hours of instruction. Graduates of ATDM earn industry-recognized certifications and gain access to job opportunities in high-paying and in-demand defense industry trades.
ATDM is committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion, creating a respectful culture that welcomes students, instructors, and staff from all backgrounds and abilities. The program's mission is to train a skilled workforce that can make an immediate impact on the U.S. defense industrial base. Furthermore, ATDM aspires to lead workforce development for the defense industry and expand its curriculum nationwide.
Located in Danville, Virginia, ATDM offers the best of both worlds with its natural beauty and a wide range of recreational activities. The program has an easy application process, and there are no prerequisites or job experience required. Military personnel, including spouses, are eligible to enroll, and ATDM offers support in finding employment opportunities after completing the program. Tuition, housing, and transportation are currently provided for students, with additional expenses being the responsibility of the participants.
