The Atken Armenian Foundation (AAF) is a charitable organization established in 2009, following the passing of Dr. Atken Armenian, an Armenian-Canadian educator, humanitarian, and music lover who spent the final 14 years of his life in Armenia. The Foundation continues his charitable work, focusing on opportunities for students, families, and communities in need. Its broader mission is to support Armenia’s development through cultural and economic initiatives.
AAF’s work includes educational support and music-focused opportunities for young people. It awards fellowships and scholarships, including the Dr. Mohammed Haroon Memorial Music Scholarships and the Levon and Ana Afeyan and Haig and Virginia Misakyan fellowships. The Foundation also supports Zartonk Music Academy, which offers programs such as masterclasses for musicians in Armenia, and publicizes opportunities for emerging artists. Through news, videos, and its magazine, AAF shares updates about its initiatives and beneficiaries. Individuals can support its work through donations; American donors seeking a U.S. tax receipt can contribute to the Zartonk project through the Foundation’s partner, Armenia Tree Project.
