Atlanta Storms is the weather-spotting and storm-chasing operation of Al Stefanelli, a severe-weather spotter and interceptor based in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Focused on North and Central Georgia, the operation tracks high-impact weather and provides ground-level observations to complement radar data. Its work includes verifying storm rotation, wall clouds, hail, damaging winds, flash flooding, and possible tornado activity, as well as reporting damage, blocked roads, fallen trees, and power lines to forecasters and emergency managers.
Safety and civic responsibility guide field operations: Atlanta Storms aims to avoid obstructing traffic or first responders and prioritizes public safety over photography. The mobile setup uses weather instruments, GPS mapping, NEXRAD radar feeds, cameras, low-light and thermal sensors, auxiliary power, and safety equipment. Licensed amateur radio and participation in SKYWARN nets provide a communication link when cellular networks are disrupted, supporting coordination with the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City and other operators. The operation uses a 2012 Nissan Murano equipped for weather monitoring, radio communication, and field work.
