About Atlantic League
The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB) is celebrating its 25th season as a top-tier professional baseball league, second only to Major League Baseball. The league offers an open classification of play, showcasing highly experienced players who have honed their skills at various developmental levels (A, AA, AAA) before reaching the Atlantic League. In fact, over 40% of the league's players have major league service time.
Unlike other leagues, the emphasis in the Atlantic League is on winning games rather than player development. As a result, more than 1,200 ALPB players have signed contracts with Major League organizations, with over 100 players eventually making their way to Major League Baseball. The league boasts an average of over 50 player contract sales to MLB organizations each year.
In addition to its success in player development, the Atlantic League takes pride in providing fun and affordable family entertainment. With state-of-the-art ballparks, the league has garnered an impressive attendance record of over 45 million fans since its inception in 1998. Recognized as a trailblazer, the Atlantic League signed a working agreement with Major League Baseball in 2016, becoming the first independent professional baseball league to do so.
In 2020, the league further solidified its partnership by becoming the first professional partner league of Major League Baseball. In line with its commitment to growth and expansion, the Atlantic League plans to increase its number of teams to 12 in the coming years. This expansion will begin in 2024 with the addition of Hagerstown, Md., joining the existing teams located in major metropolitan markets such as New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, and Charlotte, N.
C. Alongside its on-field accomplishments, the Atlantic League also focuses on giving back to its communities. Through collective efforts, the league's clubs have raised millions of dollars for local charities and created hundreds of jobs, making significant contributions to the local economies of each community.
With a rich history including esteemed Baseball Executives such as Joe Klein, Bud Harrelson, Sparky Lyle, and Brooks Robinson, the Atlantic League continues to excel both on and off the field.
