De Atletiekunie is de overkoepelende organisatie in Nederland voor atletiek en de daaronder vallende loopsport. Tot de kerntaken behoren het ondersteunen van verenigingen en loopgroepen, het reguleren van wedstrijden en het organiseren van de topsportprogramma’s. Met bijna 300 aangesloten verenigingen, 80 loopgroepen en meer dan 2100 loopevenementen per jaar behoort de Atletiekunie tot de grootste sportbonden van Nederland. Al deze partijen worden bediend vanuit het bondsbureau dat gevestigd is op Papendal. De Atletiekunie is een organisatie die sterk in beweging is teneinde haar positie te versterken in het veranderende sportlandschap waar steeds meer Nederlanders ongebonden sporten.
