Ato Ribeiro Art presents the work and creative practice of Ato Ribeiro, a multidisciplinary artist born in 1989. Working across sculptural installation, drawing, printmaking, and mixed media, Ribeiro explores the relationship between West African heritage and African American identity within Western culture. The practice draws on the Adinkra concept of Sankofa, understood as returning to retrieve what has been lost, and uses research to engage with shared and overlooked histories.
Traditional communication embedded in Ghanaian Kente cloth and African American quilts is a central influence. The site features wooden Kente and quilt works, the Anansi series, prints, and mixed media installations, offering viewers new points of reference while preserving layers of African cultural heritage and diverse ethnic perspectives. It also shares events and conversations connected to Ribeiro’s work, including an artist talk with poet Jericho Brown about the exhibition “In Due Time,” featuring a reading by Jessica Care Moore.
Through these works and resources, Ato Ribeiro Art connects historical traditions with contemporary cultural experience
