The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service (Qld) Ltd (ATSILS) is a community-based legal assistance organisation established in 1972 to advance and protect the legal and human rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It provides professional, culturally competent services to communities across Queensland, operating from more than 20 locations. ATSILS offers assistance in criminal, civil and family law, with a free call number available during business hours for legal matters. After hours, the number is reserved for custody notifications relating to new arrests.
Beyond individual legal assistance, ATSILS delivers prevention and intervention programs, community legal education, and Throughcare services. It also undertakes coronial and public sector monitoring, and contributes to law reform.
