The Attlee Foundation is an independent registered charity established in 1967 with cross-party support to benefit people disadvantaged by poverty or lack of opportunity. It continues the social and progressive work of former British Prime Minister Clement Attlee, promoting his vision of a fair, equal and just society. While rooted in his legacy, the Foundation focuses particularly on expanding opportunities for young people, especially in East London.
Its work includes partnerships with educational organisations, bursaries, lectures, public events and projects commemorating Attlee’s life and achievements. In partnership with the Attlee A Level Academy in Tower Hamlets, it runs the Clement Attlee Students of the Year competition, recognising originality, independent thought and engagement with Attlee’s legacy. The Foundation also raises funds for £5,000 bursaries to help disadvantaged students from the East End progress to tertiary education. Its lectures and events bring people together across social and political backgrounds, while news and educational collaborations share the Foundation’s activities and values.
