ATUNEC is the Association of Tuna Fishermen of Ecuador, established in 1994 with the aim of bringing together all the owners of tuna fishing boats in the country. Their main objective is to promote solidarity and the material, social, and technological development of their members. They are committed to strategic and responsible fishing for a sustainable future.

ATUNEC focuses on implementing sustainable practices both on land and at sea. They are dedicated to protecting Ecuador's tuna exports to the European Union (EU) by intensifying their fight against illegal fishing. In response, the government will present a new law that includes sanctions for illegal fishing activities.

Moreover, ATUNEC is actively involved in ongoing reforms to establish clear regulations and enforce higher fines to counter illegal fishing in Ecuadorian waters.
