Auckland Coastguard Inc

Auckland Coastguard is a volunteer-powered maritime rescue organisation serving boaties and communities across the Hauraki Gulf and beyond. Its mission is to save lives at sea, while its vision is for everyone to enjoy Aotearoa New Zealand’s waters safely and with confidence. The organisation owns, maintains and operates three dedicated rescue vessels, providing emergency assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The fleet includes two larger, high-powered rescue craft and a 9-metre Rayglass Protector, with volunteer crews trained to respond on the water.

Founded in 1934, Auckland Coastguard has evolved from a service largely supported by private rescue vessels into a fleet-based operation. The original organisation is now divided into nine units around the Hauraki Gulf, working toward the shared goal of safer boating. Staff support operations and volunteers, while a volunteer-led board guides the organisation. Auckland Coastguard also offers membership, boating safety information and opportunities to volunteer, and welcomes public support through donations. In an emergency, boaters can call VHF 16 or *500.
