AuGe Wetterau

Auen- und Gewässerschutz Wetterau e.V., also known as AuGe Wetterau, is a nature conservation association working to protect and restore river and floodplain habitats in the Nidda river system in Germany’s Wetterau region. The organization responds to the ecological degradation of local streams caused by channel straightening and intensive land use, supporting efforts to give waterways a more natural form.

Its work focuses on waterway protection, floodplain conservation and biodiversity. Projects promote clean water and varied natural structures, restore floodplain features, and create habitats for rare animals and plants. Examples include building water-retention basins, or small depressions, in the Florstadt Forest to collect and release water gradually. The association also shares project updates and information about its conservation goals through its website.

AuGe Wetterau invites people interested in shaping their local environment to become members, take part in nature conservation projects and help restore natural habitats along rivers. The organization’s activities are centered on practical, community-supported measures to protect and encourage living waterways and intact floodplains across the Nidda river system.
