Aura is an Australian Ultra Runners Association that was formed in 1987 with the goal of fostering and promoting the sport of ultra running in Australia. It is a member of the International Association of Ultrarunners, and its founders, Geoff Hook, Dot Browne, and Colin Browne, made significant contributions to the sport and were honored as life members. Aura maintains open and age group records for various distances and times, including 50km, 100km, 200km, 500km, 1000km, 50 miles, 100 miles, 500 miles, 1000 miles, 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours, and 6 days.
These records apply to both track and road races, with specific measurement criteria. In addition to record keeping, Aura conducts an annual points competition, where participants can earn points for starting and placing in races. Valuable prizes are awarded to the winners.
Aura also selects teams to represent Australia in international ultra running competitions. Aura aims to attract more athletes to the sport, ensure well-conducted races, provide a memorable experience for participants, and maintain a high level of performance
