AuraPlay is an independent virtual reality media brand created by London-based developer Dave McGuinness. Designed for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S, its app turns a personal video collection into a private cinema experience, with four virtual environments ranging from an intimate home cinema to an IMAX-style hall. Users can play compatible media files stored on their headset, stream from a computer or access content on a NAS and media servers through SMB and DLNA. Features include full-resolution Blu-ray 3D file playback, support for other 3D formats, adjustable screens, spatial audio, subtitles and AuraLight, which projects film colours into a passthrough room using the headset’s room scan.
AuraPlay is available as a free edition on the Meta Horizon Store, with no subscription or account required. Its free AuraLink desktop companion for Windows and macOS helps users browse movie folders over a home network and offers 2D-to-3D conversion on compatible computers. AuraPlay Pro is a one-time-purchase sideload edition that adds live HDMI input with a compatible USB capture adapter.
