AURES project

AURES II is a pioneering research initiative dedicated to enhancing the implementation of auctions for Renewable Energy Sources (RES) across European Union member states. Building on the foundations laid by its predecessor, the AURES project, AURES II applies a multi-methodological approach, combining literature reviews, theoretical analyses, and empirical methods to investigate various auction design options. The project emphasizes collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including policymakers and industry representatives, fostering dialogue to exchange best practices and build capacity across Europe.

The overarching goal of AURES II is to provide actionable insights and tailored policy support to enhance the cost-efficiency and effectiveness of financial support mechanisms for RES. Key topics explored include the implications of technology-specific versus technology-neutral support schemes and the establishment of a comprehensive online database documenting auction rounds in the EU. Through its rigorous analysis and stakeholder engagement, AURES II aims to secure Europe’s leadership in renewable energy while ensuring equitable support expenditures for consumers.
