AuScope is Australia’s national provider of geoscience research infrastructure, enabling collaboration across universities, government and industry to better understand our dynamic Earth, from its deep interior to its surface. Funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Education and the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy, AuScope connects people, data, technology and expertise across a distributed national network.

Through partnerships with Geoscience Australia, CSIRO, universities and state and territory geological surveys, AuScope delivers integrated infrastructure spanning Earth composition and evolution, Earth imaging and sounding, geodesy and geodynamics, and national digital platforms. Together, these capabilities form a “Downward Looking Telescope” that enables scientists to observe, analyse and model Earth systems in new ways.

AuScope supports research addressing fundamental geoscience questions and national priorities, natural resources security, groundwater systems, climate change, sustainable energy and natural hazards. By enabling access to high quality data, samples and tools, AuScope supports informed decision making for Australia’s future.

Through global partnerships and formal agreements, including memoranda of understanding, AuScope connects Australian research with leading international programs, contributing to global geoscience initiatives and shared knowledge.

AuScope is a not for profit company governed by an independent board and representing 22 member organisations across the Australian geoscience community.
