About NZ Society of Authors
The New Zealand Society of Authors (NZSA) is a non-profit organization that supports and advocates for the interests of writers in Aotearoa New Zealand. Established in 1934 as the New Zealand PEN Centre, NZSA promotes the right to freedom of expression, fair reward, and creative rights for all writers. It serves as a leading voice for Aotearoa New Zealand writers and writing by maintaining a vibrant community, providing professional development through training, mentorship, assessment programs, and administering various prizes, awards, and research grants.
With over 1800 members and a national office supporting 8 regional branches, NZSA acts as a hub for the writing community. It shares news, issues press releases, and publishes a quarterly magazine that highlights the latest book-related news, writing activities, achievements, and opportunities. NZSA's advocacy and educational programs are open to all writers, benefiting Aotearoa New Zealand's writing ecosystem.
The organization collaborates with other book sector organizations and has representatives on various sector boards and committees. Join NZSA to access their educational and professional programs, contribute to the writing community, and support their collaboration and advocacy efforts for Aotearoa writers and writing
