Sarah Doran is a U.S. Army aviation veteran, children’s author, and homeschooling mother whose work celebrates military families. Drawing on her childhood in a military family and her service as a Blackhawk helicopter mechanic and crew chief, she creates engaging, educational picture books that portray military life with authenticity. Her stories aim to honor service members, encourage patriotism, and help young readers understand the Armed Forces. Each picture book includes educational resource pages and a STEM activity.
Doran’s books include The Peppered Sky (2023), about a military family’s Airborne experience; Sleeping Giants (2024), which highlights military women in aviation, Army helicopters, and the imagination and resilience of military children; and The Fearless and the Fallen (2026), a poetic, watercolor tribute to U.S. veterans across all six military branches. Her work has received award recognition, including honors and finalist placements for her books.
