Autisten-WG Oberreichenbach is a shared-living community in Oberreichenbach-Kammerstein created to help people with autism live as independently and self-determinedly as possible. The idea grew from the experience of founders Barbara and Norbert Lang, who cared for their autistic son at home for 19 years and struggled to find a suitable alternative to large care institutions. They established the community with Kati Weigand, who also has an autistic daughter.
The residence offers a small-scale living environment where tenants form a self-governing community. Through a committee for self-determination, residents organise shared life and make decisions about matters affecting the household. Qualified support staff provide professional assistance and aim to foster mutual respect and a comfortable atmosphere. The organisation also welcomes enquiries from families seeking a place for an autistic relative and invites supporters to contribute through donations. Its website provides information about the shared home, its services, the relatives’ committee, its guiding principles, and contact options. The community’s approach centres on living together and supporting one another.
