About AVADRONE
AVADRONE is developing an active marking system designed to help rescuers locate people buried in avalanches more quickly. Its lightweight device launches from a wearer’s equipment when an avalanche triggers, tracks the person’s movement through the slide and marks their final burial position on the snow’s surface. By making the location visible, the system aims to bypass the initial signal and coarse-search phases and help rescuers begin digging sooner.
Designed as an additional layer of avalanche safety, AVADRONE is intended to work alongside transceivers, airbags, probes and RECCO rather than replace them. The concept incorporates inertial sensing and a 457 kHz beacon, with electronics designed to power down after marking the burial site to minimise interference with transceiver searches. The system is described as weighing under one kilogram and integrating with a backpack; a shoulder-strap trigger module can attach to existing airbag releases. AVADRONE presents its technology as a way to return valuable minutes during rescue, particularly when visibility is poor, terrain is complex or companions are unable to search.
