About AvilaUniversity
Avila University is a Catholic institution founded in 1916 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. With a mission of service to the community and the world, Avila offers a Liberal Arts foundation to its students.
The university values creativity, passion, and a drive for making a difference in communities and globally. Students at Avila are encouraged to volunteer their time and collectively contribute over 140,000 service hours each year. Avila University has a rich history, starting as a small school in 1866 named St.
Teresa’s Academy, and later becoming St. Teresa’s College in 1916. The university expanded and became known as Avila College in 1940.
