Avis Ponsacco

Avis Ponsacco is the local branch of AVIS, the Italian Blood Volunteer Association, a nonprofit, nonpartisan and nonreligious volunteer organization that states it does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, language, nationality, religion or political beliefs. Based in Ponsacco, in the province of Pisa, it promotes blood donation and supports people who need blood for treatment, including those affected by cancers and leukaemia, and people undergoing transplants.

The association helps prospective donors understand and complete the donation process. Interested people are asked to contact Avis Ponsacco to arrange a pre-donation appointment and complete an enrollment form. They then attend an interview and screening at a transfusion centre to determine their eligibility; those who pass can schedule their first donation. The organization also shares practical guidance, such as staying hydrated, avoiding alcohol before donating and bringing a health card. Alongside its donor-focused work, Avis Ponsacco publishes association news, organizes community activities including photography competitions, and promotes opportunities such as the Universal Civil Service.
